Veterans from the Allentown outpatient clinic ran another bus trip to Washington, D.C., on Veterans Day.
Before leaving Allentown, we took a moment to remember those loved ones, friends and family who gave all.
The event takes planning. A bus is scheduled and paid-for in advance. Donations and supplies are gathered. A lunch is provided at the D.C. mall for all guests. Many guests donate paper goods, tables, coolers and ice.
Serving lunch to 50-plus passengers is our way of saying thanks for the support.
A request was made to our friend and neighbor, Wegans of Bethlehem. Their donation was overwhelming. Hoagies, chips, fruit, beverages. The Veterans of Allentown want to extend a heartfelt thank you.
The Allentown vets took another step this year. Our idea was to share any leftovers with the Allentown Rescue Mission. The goal was to reach out to our brothers and sisters in the Lehigh Valley. The reply from the veterans was a unanimous “yes” — a gesture that was reciprocated in a thank-you letter from the mission.
