A veteran is being recognized for his service in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War.

Sergeant Jack Hughes is a Purple Heart recipient.

Members of The North Carolina Department of Military and Veterans Affairs and the NC Division of Motor Vehicles honored him with a veteran license and license plate.

“We didn’t receive this when we came home 47 years ago. And this today is probably the highlight of my military life,” Hughes said.

Hughes said this is a joyous moment of brotherhood, especially considering what he recently went through.

He was attacked last year by a group of men at the Charlotte airport who falsely accused him of wearing fake service decorations.

Today he was honored for risking his life for our country.

The event was held at the Charlotte Bridge Home, anorganization that connects veterans with the full range of services and resources they may need.
